Blue and Gold weekend is one of the most anticipated weekends of the year for the John Burroughs community. However, the built-up excitement often dissipates relatively quickly after the outcome of the Homecoming weekend football game against MICDS. While most attention goes to the score of the football game, many other sporting events resulted in victory and deserve acknowledgement.
Early in the week, Bomber women’s golf outscored the rams by fifteen strokes, jumpstarting the winning streak! That Saturday bright and early, the cross country team set out to compete in the seventh annual Gans Creek Classic. With the first race commencing at 7:55 A.M., both varsity and junior varsity competed in the 5000 meter race, about 3.11 miles. For the men’s races, Chris Tao (‘26) and Joe Sperino (‘27) placed second and third overall, starting the day off with a bang! For the women’s, Priyanka Antony (‘26) placed in tenth, putting Burroughs up on the board!Â
Hours later, the varsity men’s soccer buckled in for a tight game. With a score of 0-0 by the last whistle of the fourth quarter, the Rams and Bombers entered overtime to battle it out. With an amazing goal from Arjun Krishnasamy (‘27), John Burroughs took home another win, with many more to come. Following soccer, varsity field hockey went head to head with the Rams, unfortunately taking a loss by one goal, but still managing to get a goal out from under them, scored by Reese Rafferty (‘26).Â
At the same time, Bomber varsity volleyball swept the MICDS team, winning the first and only three sets. Not even letting the Rams have a chance at victory, Georgia Hite (‘26) scored her one-thousandth career kill! Fans then rushed over to the Ron Holtman Stadium on MICDS grounds to catch the beginning of the long awaited football match up. While the final score of the game was a Burroughs loss 8-38, the Bombers had a stunning touchdown from freshman Malakhi DeBoise (‘29)! While the Bomber linebackers were lining up, Burroughs tennis pulled through with another victory for JBS! The ending score for the varsity women was 6-3, concluding the day with one final win for Burroughs!Â
While varsity did more than their part to succeed in athletics this past homecoming weekend, junior varsity came through to put wins across the board! JV soccer, volleyball, and soccer all had victories to show by the end of the day! So when the sun set on the Saturday of John Burroughs’s Homecoming weekend 2025, the Bombers outscored the Rams 4-3, proving that even if a lost football game dampens the mood, the Bombers always pull through!
